Survey on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Medicolegal Field

eMedicoLegal  performed a web-based survey in September 2023 to understand AI's current and future use in the medicolegal field. The response size was small (28) and likely biased in favor of those interested enough in AI to complete the survey; however, the information is revealing. The majority (57%) were physicians; other participants included psychologists, other types of health care providers, and claims professionals. Most strongly agreed (46%) or agreed (43%) that AI will profoundly impact the medicolegal field, and all agreed, with 68% strongly agreeing that it is important to understand AI basics. The most common current uses were document analysis, content creation, and research. ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4 were the most commonly used large language models. The most common biggest insights or surprises included speed, extent of knowledge, and ability to improve writing.
